About Peter Chau

Peter graduated from Monash University in 1977 with a BMedSc(Hon) in Neurophysiology and a MB BS. (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery)

He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians MRC(UK) in 1981. Preliminary eye training was at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (UK). He then received his Vocational Training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital to obtain Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists FRACO and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons FRACS.

In 1986, he was the Retinal Fellow at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.

He has held the positions of Consultant to the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital 1987-1997 and Consultant to Box Hill Hospital 1989-1994.

Dr Chau commenced private practice in 1989 in Mont Albert. The practice initially had a large component of Surgical and Medical Retinal Diseases.

In the 1990’s he expanded his practice and interests into PRK, LASIK and Refractive Cataract Surgery, co-managing patients with Optometrists.

There has been a continued focus on Cataract Surgery with a very strong consciousness of the refractive results of surgery.

He started performing cataract surgery under topical anaesthesia in 1995. Co management with Optometrists also started in 1995, and continues to this day.

Peter’s recreation interests have included Windsurfing, Alpine Skiing, Classical Ballet and more recently Yoga.
